SOUND TRANSMISSION CLASS (STC) PRODUCT PERFORMANCE RATING REPORT
ETO Doors' products have been tested for sound transmission class (STC) ratings. This Sound Transmission Report provides information on our door's acoustical performance.
STC ratings allow to accurately compare noise reduction capabilities by using a single value for the acoustical performance of a door. STC ratings are calculated by a weighted average of Transmission Loss (TL: a door’s ability to reduce noise) values taken over 16 frequencies, which are fitted to a curve in a method defined by the ASTM E413 Classification Standard for Rating Sound Insulation. The higher the STC value, the better the rating, and the more sound is stopped.
The OITC (Outdoor-Indoor Transmission Class) was also calculated in testing in accordance with ASTM E 1332. It is important to note that a door’s sound rating is only as good as the gasketing and perimeter seals that are used. Specification writers and architects should note that to achieve utmost results, doors, frames and gasketing must be properly installed to maintain control of the sound in the area.
