Cool Doors

Who says that your doors have to be drab and uninteresting? We certainly don’t. If you aren’t ready to replace them, but your home needs a bit of livening up, check out these 10 decorating ideas for your doors:

  1. Use Washi Tape: Washi tape has taken the Internet by a storm, and for good reason. Similar to masking tape, but made from natural fibers such as bamboo.
  2. Vintage Door Knockers: Scour antique markets and online vintage stores for bold, unique door knockers. In addition to looking cool, they are functional as well.
  3. Bright Colors: 2017 is supposed to be a year of strong colors, so don’t hold back when it comes to painting your door. Just make sure you aren’t violating any HOA rules.
  4. Birdhouses: Does your door have an overhang? Hang brightly-colored birdhouses along with it for a colorful welcome to both avian and human friends alike.
  5. Stained Glass Overlay: Does your door have windows? Consider stained glass overlay, a less-expensive, sturdier alternative to traditional stained glass. You can choose beautiful designs and colors or simple black outlining for a wrought-iron look.
  6. Paint a Mural: Are you artistic? Know somebody who is? What’s stopping you from painting, or asking someone to paint, a mural on an interior or exterior door?
  7. Clothespin Holders: Tack up some string to the front of a bedroom or dorm room door and use wooden or plastic clothespins to hold up notes and motivational messages. You can also clip pictures, Christmas ornaments, or other items to change up the way your door looks.
  8. Door Bookshelf: This project takes some work, but it is oh-so-worth-it. There are instructions and plans online for different approaches to this, and you’ll need some heavy-duty door hinges, but at the end, you’ll have a door treatment that will be the envy of all your friends.
  9. Mirrored Window Film: Reflective film on your door windows gives you privacy while allowing natural light into your home. It also adds some cool light effects to the front of your home.
  10. Hanging Door Basket: This alternative to decorative wreaths gives you a lot more flexibility. It can also save you time if you are a do-it-yourselfer. Just refill the hanging basket with silk or real flowers and foliage as the seasons change.

Don’t limit yourself to these ideas, of course. Get online and check out ideas while also paying attention to doors in your neighborhood and in friends’ homes. In fact, why not make it your resolution to redo at least two of your doors this year?
