Hanging a mirror on the interior side of a bedroom or bathroom door is a great way to be able to see your entire ensemble without wasting space on a freestanding mirror. However, not all doors can hold a mirror that screws into an entryway, because they are hollow. If you have a solid wood interior door, you can easily install a hanging mirror to the inside of your room or anyplace else you like.

To begin, enlist the help of a friend to help you hold the mirror against the door. Attach a hands-free level to the top of the mirror, press it against the door, wait for the bubble inside the level to be centered, then make small marks at the corners and top of the mirror with a pencil or washable pen.

On the back of the mirror, you’ll notice either D-ring-type hanging hooks or sawtooth hardware toward the top of the mirror. If your mirror has D-rings on either side of its backing, use these to string a piece of picture wire across the back of the mirror, ensuring the wire is firmly knotted and secured to the D-rings to avoid any falling or other accidents.

Hold the picture wire now installed on the back of the mirror up until it is completely taut until it makes a tight triangle shape. Wherever the peak of this triangle lands, make a mark on the mirror backing, as this will tell you where you’ll need to install screws and anchors into the door.

Measure the distance between the peak of the picture wire and the top of the mirror: this will tell you how far down from the top of the mirror the hardware will need to be installed. Now, take a look at the marks you made on the solid interior door: using the measurement you just took from the picture wire, measure from the top mark you made on the door down to where the picture wire will hang.

Install two screws instead of one

When hanging a mirror on a door, you want to make sure its safely in place and won’t move around or shake every time the door is opened or closed. By installing two screws with anchors right at the mark you made for the picture wire, you can rest assured the mirror won’t fall down or shake.

Install each screw about two to three inches apart, ensuring they are level. Finally, you’re ready to hang your mirror on your interior door! This should be as simple as holding the mirror up and sliding it against the surface of the door until the picture wire catches on the two screws you installed in the door.

Now you can check your look anytime you like without any hassle or wasted space!
